Trace Elements: Architectural Glass, PHX Sky Train
Architectural glass designed by Daniel Mayer with hand-painted ceramic glazes and screen-printed float glass, PHX Sky Train, Terminal-4. Two connector bridges span 9′ x 115′ with 28 laminated panels of glass measuring 4′ x 9′ ea., and are integrated into the airport’s automatic train system. Glass fabricator: Franz Mayer Architectural Glass and Mosaic, Munich, Germany; glass installation by Walters & Wolf; HOK Architecture; lighting design by Dinter in collaboration with the artist, and Hensel Phelps general contractor. Terrazzo design in eight colors by Daniel Mayer with more than 1000 water-jet cut letterforms. The 20,000 sq. ft. terrazzo flooring includes the artist’s own handwriting that references the timelessness of open spaces and limitless possibilities. Fabricator: Advance Terrazzo of Phoenix.
